The Unraveling Begins

But what happens as we begin to live from the heart? The long over-due unraveling begins.

This is where karma starts to uproot. Memory stored within the nervous system begins to unwind. When we simply yoke our internal awareness to the heartbeat and to the breath, the loop begins to loosen. The system finally exhales. The deep-seated programs of fear, scarcity, and separation begin to soften. And with that softening, the layers we’ve mistaken as “me” begin to peel away.

This unraveling can feel like death. And in a way, it is. It is the death of the false self, the death of an identity built from protection and survival. As it dissolves, what first arises is often grief — profound, oceanic grief for what was lost, for what was never real, for how long we lived afraid. There may also be confusion, disorientation, and loneliness in a world that often lacks spiritual language for this sacred dismantling. In the wrong hands, this process is pathologized. But in the hands of the awakened, it is honored. Because this too has been mapped for thousands of years.

This is the terrain of awakening.

Buddhist texts call this the "groundless ground"— the space where nothing is solid, where all you thought you were becomes dust. And what remains? Heartbeat. Spaciousness. And, eventually… joy. The joy of not needing to be anyone but this breath, this heartbeat, this eternal pulse.

If you’re still reading, you are clearly on the path — even if you don’t yet know it. Even if it feels dark. Especially then. Because the dark you find yourself in may be the very heart of darkness where your spark is rekindled. Sometimes it is only when everything false burns away, that the truth of who you are can rise.

And so if you resonant with what I am saying here, I want to remind you, not as a teacher but as your sangha, as someone who wants to see you thriving: You are not alone in this. You are unwinding from a deeply embedded programming, and in that unwinding, you are claiming your life.
